How it works
Your library, sorted in an afternoon
Adding a book takes a couple of seconds. Bringing a list from Goodreads, a spreadsheet or your notes takes one paste.
Scan a barcode
Point the camera at the back of a book. The cover, title and author fill in by themselves. No barcode? Search by title, author or ISBN.
Or snap the whole shelf
Take one photo of a shelf and ShelfMark finds the books in it, so a full bookcase takes minutes instead of an evening.
It’s on your shelf
Each book goes on the shelf it lives on at home, the living room, the study, the nightstand, so you can find any of them fast.
In the bookshop
Never buy a book twice
Standing at the bookshop table, phone already out: is this one already at home? ShelfMark knows.
Check before you buy
Scan a book in the shop and ShelfMark tells you if it’s already in your library or on your wishlist.
One press from the Home Screen
Press and hold the app icon and choose Scan a book. The camera opens, ready.
A wishlist people can gift from
Share a link to your wishlist, with a note and your most wanted. Friends mark what they’re getting, so nobody buys the same book.
Your local bookshop first
Gift links offer a local bookshop as well as Amazon, so the money can stay on your street.

Your shelves
Shelves like the ones at home
Your books stand on a real bookcase, shelf by shelf, the way they do in the living room. And like the one in the living room, you can make it yours.
Shelves by room
A shelf for every place your books live: a bookcase, a room, the stack by the bed. Books you’ve borrowed or keep as ebooks don’t need one.
Make it yours
Decorate a shelf with a plant, a sleepy cat, a reading lamp or a mug of tea, and drag each piece where you like.
A fresh coat of paint
Paint the bookcase to match the room it stands in.
Keepsakes you earn
A rosette for ten books read, a thank-you card for your first lend, a trophy for meeting your reading goal.
New for each season
A small set of decorations arrives with the season, and stays in your collection after it ends.
Share your shelf
Turn a shelf into a picture to send to a friend.
Friends
Borrow from friends, and get your books back
The book you want is probably on a friend’s shelf already.
Browse their shelves
See what your friends own and what they’re reading, and ask to borrow a book straight from their shelf.
Know who has your books
Lend a book and ShelfMark remembers who has it, until they give it back.
Pass a book along
Recommend a book to a friend with a line about why. It waits for them in Discover.
What to read next
Picks from your own shelves, not from ads
Ideas come from the books you own and how you rated them. No ads decide what you see.
Picks from your own shelves
Ideas for what to read next, chosen from the books you own and how you rated them, each with the reason why.
“Would I like this one?”
Ask about any book, one a friend mentioned or one in your hand, and get an answer from your own shelves.
Already on your shelves
The best next read is often one you own. ShelfMark finds the unread books that suit you, and says which shelf they’re on.
Ideas from a photo
Snap a bookshop table or a friend’s shelf and see which of the books suit you.
Privacy, in plain words
Your shelves, your rules
You choose who sees it
Public with a share link, friends only, or private. Private hides your library from everyone, friends included.
Some things are always yours
Friends see your books and shelves. Your notes, reviews and who you lend to always stay private.
Picks are opt-in
Personalized picks are off until you turn them on, and the app tells you exactly what they send first. Your library never trains AI.
No ads, no selling
We don’t sell your data or use it for advertising. Delete your account any time, right in the app.
Questions readers ask
What is ShelfMark?
ShelfMark is a home library app for iPhone and Android. It keeps a catalog of the physical books you own, so you always know what’s on your shelves, what you’ve read, and what to read next.
How do I add books?
Scan the barcode on the back of a book, search by title, author or ISBN, or photograph a whole shelf and let ShelfMark find the books in it. You can also type a book in by hand or import a list. Covers and details fill in by themselves.
Is ShelfMark free?
Yes. The free plan holds up to 5,000 books, with barcode scanning, shelves, friends, borrowing and import. It includes 10 shelf photos to get you started and 3 AI credits a month.
Premium adds 100 AI credits a month, fills in themes, series and call numbers for every book you add, and prints spine labels. You’ll see the price in the app before you buy.
How is ShelfMark different from Goodreads?
Goodreads is a social network for reading. ShelfMark is a keeper for the books you actually own: it’s built around your shelves at home, adding a book takes seconds, and ideas for what to read next come from your own library, not from ads.
Can I import my Goodreads library?
Yes. Export your library from Goodreads and import the file. Your read and currently-reading shelves come along. ShelfMark also imports spreadsheets and pasted lists of titles.
Will it stop me buying a book I already own?
Yes. When a book is already in your library or on your wishlist, ShelfMark tells you before adding it again. Scan it in the bookshop and you’ll know straight away.
Can I keep my library private?
Yes. Your library can be public to anyone with your share link, visible to friends only, or private. Private hides it from everyone, friends included. Your notes, reviews and who you lend to are always private.
How do picks work, and is AI involved?
Yes, where it helps: AI finds the books in a shelf photo, fills in missing details and suggests what to read. Personalized picks are off until you turn them on, and ShelfMark tells you what they send before you do. Your library is never used to train AI models.
Does ShelfMark work with ebooks?
You can keep Kindle, EPUB, PDF and audiobook titles in your library, but ShelfMark isn’t an ebook reader. It’s made first for physical books.
How do I get ShelfMark?
ShelfMark is in beta and coming soon to the App Store and Google Play. Join the beta and we’ll email you when your invite is ready.
