1. Agreement to Terms
By accessing or using Shelfmark (the “App” or “Service”), you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service (“Terms”). If you do not agree, do not use the App.
Shelfmark is operated by Son of a Good Man, Inc. (“Company,” “we,” “our,” or “us”).
1.1 Definitions
- “User,” “you” — any person or entity using the App
- “Content” — text, images, data, or materials you submit
- “Account” — your registered Shelfmark account
- “Subscription” — any paid tier of the Service
1.2 Eligibility
You may use Shelfmark only if:
- You are at least 13 years old
- If under 18, you have parental or guardian consent
- You provide accurate registration information
- You maintain only one account per person
2. Account Registration and Security
2.1 Account Creation
To use certain features, you must create an account and:
- Provide a valid email address
- Create a secure password
- Optionally authenticate via supported social login providers
You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your credentials.
2.2 Account Responsibility
You are responsible for all activity under your account. You agree to:
- Notify us immediately of unauthorized access
- Not share your login credentials
We are not liable for losses caused by unauthorized use of your account.
2.3 Account Suspension or Termination
We may suspend or terminate accounts that:
- Violate these Terms
- Engage in fraud or abuse
- Fail to pay applicable subscription fees
- Harm the Service or other users
3. Subscription Plans and Billing
3.1 Subscription Tiers
Free Tier
- Limited book library (up to 50 visible books)
- Basic features
- Limited AI credits
- Advertisements
Premium Tier ($7.99/month or $59.99/year)
- Unlimited library
- Full feature access
- 30 AI credits per month
- Ad-free experience
We may modify tier features from time to time.
3.2 Payment Terms
- Subscriptions bill in advance on a recurring basis
- Monthly plans renew each month
- Annual plans renew each year
- Payments are processed via RevenueCat and Stripe
- All prices are in USD unless stated otherwise
- We may change pricing with at least 30 days’ notice
3.3 AI Credit System
- Paid users may receive up to 80 AI credits per month
- Credits reset monthly and do not roll over
Credits may be used for:
- AI book recommendations
- Advanced scanning/recognition
- Intelligent organization features
3.4 Free Trials (If Offered)
- Available to first-time subscribers only
- You will be charged when the trial ends unless canceled
- You may cancel anytime during the trial
3.5 Refund Policy
- Monthly plans: No partial refunds
- Annual plans: Prorated refunds within first 30 days only
- AI credit purchases: Non-refundable
- Exceptions may be granted at our sole discretion
3.6 Internal Developer Benefits
Accounts using @sonofagoodman or @sonofai email domains may receive complimentary Premium access under our internal developer program.
4. Acceptable Use Policy
4.1 Permitted Uses
You may use Shelfmark to:
- Catalog personal book collections
- Track reading progress
- Receive recommendations
- Share libraries
- Coordinate personal lending
4.2 Prohibited Activities
You agree NOT to:
- Upload full copyrighted books or PDFs without permission
- Use the App commercially without authorization
- Scrape or data-mine the Service
- Reverse engineer or hack the App
- Upload malware or harmful code
- Impersonate others
- Harass or abuse users
- Violate laws or regulations
- Share illegal or explicit content
- Sell or transfer your account
- Circumvent subscription limits
4.3 Content Standards
User content must:
- Comply with copyright law
- Avoid hate speech or harassment
- Avoid explicit adult content
- Avoid spam or advertising
- Remain relevant to books and reading
5. Intellectual Property
5.1 Our Property
Shelfmark, including its software, design, and branding, is owned by Son of a Good Man, Inc. and protected by intellectual property laws.
You may not copy, modify, distribute, or create derivative works without permission.
5.2 Your Content
You retain ownership of your content. However, you grant us a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free license to use, store, and display your content to operate and improve the Service.
You represent that you have the rights to any content you upload.
5.3 Book Metadata
Book metadata (titles, authors, ISBNs, covers):
- May be sourced from third-party databases
- Is used for identification purposes
- Is not claimed as our property
5.4 AI-Generated Outputs
AI features are provided “as is.”
You acknowledge that:
- AI results may be inaccurate
- Recommendations are suggestions only
- We do not guarantee AI accuracy
6. Privacy
Your use of Shelfmark is governed by our Privacy Policy. By using the App, you consent to the collection and processing of information as described there.
7. Third-Party Services
Shelfmark may integrate with third-party providers including:
- Supabase
- OpenAI
- RevenueCat
- Stripe
- Mixpanel
- Firebase
We are not responsible for third-party service interruptions or policies.
8. Disclaimers
THE SERVICE IS PROVIDED “AS IS” AND “AS AVAILABLE.”
We disclaim all warranties to the fullest extent permitted by law, including:
- merchantability
- fitness for a particular purpose
- accuracy or reliability
- uninterrupted operation
9. Limitation of Liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law:
- We are not liable for indirect or consequential damages
- Our total liability shall not exceed the amount you paid us in the prior 12 months
Some jurisdictions may limit these exclusions.
10. Indemnification
You agree to indemnify and hold harmless Son of a Good Man, Inc. from claims arising out of:
- your use of the Service
- your content
- your violation of these Terms
- your violation of third-party rights
11. Book Lending Feature
Shelfmark provides coordination tools only.
We are not responsible for:
- lost or damaged books
- user disputes
- physical transfers
Users are solely responsible for lending arrangements.
12. Content Moderation
We may (but are not obligated to):
- monitor content
- remove violating content
- suspend accounts
- report illegal activity
13. Termination
You may delete your account at any time.
We may suspend or terminate accounts for violations or legal requirements.
Certain provisions (IP, liability, indemnity) survive termination.
14. Dispute Resolution and Arbitration
14.1 Informal Resolution
Before filing a claim, contact us at support@sonofagoodman.com. We will attempt resolution within 60 days.
14.2 Binding Arbitration
If unresolved, disputes will be resolved by binding arbitration through the American Arbitration Association (AAA).
Arbitration will occur in California, United States, unless conducted remotely.
14.3 Class Action Waiver
You agree to bring claims only in your individual capacity, not as part of any class action.
14.4 Opt-Out
You may opt out of arbitration within 30 days of first use by emailing:

14.5 Governing Law
These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of California, without regard to conflict of law principles.
15. Changes to Terms
We may modify these Terms from time to time. Continued use of Shelfmark after updates constitutes acceptance.
